The summer transfer window is kicking off and one of the major stories emerging from the world of European football is the future of Nigerian star Victor Osimhen. He is currently playing for Galatasaray and has been named as the main target for FC Barcelona.
Getting him to join the Spanish club, however, might be tricky as he has no release clause in his contract with Galatasaray according to club president Dursun Ozbek. This means that any club wanting to sign Osimhen will have to negotiate directly with Galatasaray.
Reports suggest that Barcelona sporting director Deco is looking at Osimhen as a potential long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, whose current contract with the Catalan team finishes at the end of this season.
Barcelona Planning for Life After Lewandowski
Victor Osimhen is 27 now, right in that sweet spot where strikers usually hit their best form. He keeps banging in goals, and honestly, it’s no wonder clubs all over the world want him. Barcelona, for one, is already thinking about life after Lewandowski. They know they need a top-class No.9 who can carry the attack for the upcoming years.
Deco and the rest of Barcelona’s sporting team aren’t just sitting around they’re actively hunting for that next big signing. Osimhen has shot straight to the top of their wishlist. He’s fast, he’s strong in the air, and he knows exactly where the goal is. That’s pretty much everything Barcelona wants in their next striker.
And it’s not just the club’s leadership who’s excited. Even legends are weighing in. Thierry Henry, for example, came out and said Barcelona should go after a striker like Osimhen if they want to keep their attack sharp. You can feel the buzz, people really want to see Osimhen in those famous Barcelona colors.
Galatasaray President Dismisses Release Clause Rumours
Along with increasing rumors about Osimhen's potential departure, Galatasaray's chief has tried to end the unsubstantiated stories.
In an interview with the Turkish publication Fanatik, the club president Dursun Ozbek rejected in a very strong manner the articles that implied that Osimhen may exit the club by a buyout clause set in his contract.
In Ozbek's point of view, the forward continues to be an indispensable member of Galatasaray's plans over several years.
“There is no release clause in Osimhen’s contract. He is an extremely successful footballer who will serve Galatasaray for many years,” Ozbek said.
With this, Galatasaray's bargaining position is greatly enhanced if any European giant wants to get the Nigerian international.
From Napoli to Galatasaray: Osimhen’s Remarkable Rise
Victor Osimhen’s rise in European football is pretty wild when you think about it. He landed at Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September 2024, and by the next year, the club decided they had to keep him for good.
Galatasaray didn’t mess around, they paid about €75 million to sign him permanently, which raised some eyebrows back then. But Osimhen wasted no time proving he was worth it. His performances since have sent his value soaring.
Since moving to Istanbul, the Nigerian striker has turned into one of the most dangerous forwards in Europe.
