"I Stopped Alcohol!" — Yuzvendra Chahal's Shocking Transformation to Save Punjab Kings!

Yuzvendra Chahal training in Punjab Kings jersey for IPL 2026

The Indian Premier League is a fast-paced sport with players' careers typically only spanning four overs or until they get hit by one too many googlies. Yuzvendra Chahal is about to start a different journey in preparation for IPL 2026, applying a new level of discipline and focusing on altering his body.

The veteran leg-spinner prepares to assist the Punjab Kings (PBKS) with making it to the end of the season after narrowly missing out on winning it last year.

Why Chahal Quit Alcohol

In an honest conversation on AB de Villiers' YouTube channel, Chahal revealed something that's been making waves in the cricketing world ever since. The legendary player confirmed that he has been completely sober for more than six months. For Chahal, this was not merely a health trend but a professional requirement.

"Now, I'm 35, I want to be more active and give my 150 per cent for my team. As a senior bowler and senior player, people will see me [and think] 'this guy, we have to learn something from him."

Battered, Bruised, but Unbroken: The Secret Injury Toll

The reason behind this change is a tough 2025 season. Although fans witnessed Chahal aiding PBKS in getting to the final for the first time since 2014, not many were aware of the physical toll he suffered. Chahal stated that a fractured hip during a fight with KKR was shortly followed by a fractured knuckle towards the end of the tournament.

As Punjab Kings are ready to start their tournament with Gujarat Titans on March 31, everyone is focused on the "new" Chahal. Even though he was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup winning team but did not get a chance to play, the desire to prove himself on the field is strong.

With the addition of his sobriety and increased fitness level, he should provide the team with a spark that can help them reach their goal of winning a championship. If Chahal continues to demonstrate the commitment he has shown up to this point, maybe the "Red and Gold" will find the final piece to completing their championship puzzle.
