4 Players CSK Can Sign As Replacement Of Injured Nathan Ellis For IPL 2026

The Anbuden is buzzing with excitement and dread today. While the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are working out the details of how to forget their dismal 2025 season, a shockwave has hit the camp: Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis, considered a strong candidate to be the spearhead of the pace attack, has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 after injuring his hamstring on a recent training session in a severe grade two tear.

The confirmation comes from CSK CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, who called the news "huge for us" during a Sportstar telephone interview. He went on to say, "Ellis was central to our planning for the death overs, especially with Matheesha Pathirana leaving."

The five-time champions now have a mad scramble to find a world-class replacement before the tournament starts on March 28.

The Vacancy: Five Overseas Pacers Who Could Fit the Bill

With Ellis out, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side needs someone who can copy his sneaky changes and calm attitude under stress. Here are the best choices probably on the CSK radar:

1. Gerald Coetzee (South Africa)

The Karate Kid of South African cricket brings strong speed and an aggressive nature. He has played before for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans; thus, Coetzee knows about IPL pressure with 15 wickets in 14 matches. His ability to hit hard on the ground makes him a consistent 150 kmph in top-tier speed; this would be a strategic choice for The Yellow Army.

2. Shamar Joseph (West Indies)

If CSK is looking for a "fear factor" signing, the Guyanese sensation is the man. After an outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup 2026  where he took 26 wickets in 22 matches, Joseph is one of the fastest bowlers with a high-arm action that can be really dangerous on the Chepauk pitch. Since LSG has been the team he has played for the most time, he must know the ins and outs of the league.

3. Fazalhaq Farooqi (Afghanistan)

With CSK having already secured Afghan prodigy Noor Ahmad, Farooqi could be the perfect left-arm companion. A proven wicket-taker with 66 scalps in 54 T20Is, his ability to swing the new ball and execute pinpoint yorkers at the death makes him a "like-for-like" replacement for a specialist like Ellis.

4. Jason Behrendorff (Australia)

As a consummate professional, Behrendorff brings an air of familiarity due to his previous time with CSK, and thus knows the team dynamics and culture very well. While Behrendorff does not possess the extreme speed that Coetzee does, the left-armers exceptional accuracy during Powerplay could provide an opportunity for CSK to restructure their bowler’s roles. For instance, moving Henry or Overton to be more specialized for death overs.
