Maximum Drama was officially awarded to IPL 2026 after KKR beat LSG by 5 balls via Super Over at the Ekana Stadium; and as a result of this win, KKR has moved up the standings to a tie for first place, while LSG continues to struggle in what has been a terrible season so far and doesn't appear like it will get any better in the near future.

Opted to field after winning the toss, captain Rishabh Pant of Lucknow made a superb choice of a pitch that, under lights, should be difficult to chase. That seemed the case for a large part of KKR's innings until Rinku Singh, vice-captain of KKR, decided to change the course of this one. The 23-year-old middle-order hitter played a classic inning and carried KKR to 155 for 7, finishing unbeaten on 83 in what was a magnificent display of middle-order hitting.

The chase of Lucknow was a wild ride of ups and downs after the initial response. The Magpies had a good start but they couldn't maintain the pace to keep the required run rate easily. In an exciting last over, LSG were able to tie the game at 155 for 8 setting up the first Super Over of the 2026 season

The Super Over Disaster

If the match had been a war, the Super Over would have been completely destroyed. LSG’s batting failed miserably, scoring just 1 run off of their six balls (which was an impossibly hard target for them to keep) and thus closed to not being able to defend. KKR’s player of the hour was Rinku Singh, who, right after fans of KKR had waited long enough to see KKR win a game, hit his very first ball in the Super Over for a boundary, clinching the second straight win for the KKR Players (also known as ‘men in purple and gold’).

"Find Answers Within": Rishabh Pant’s Candid Admission

This is their fifth straight loss, and a catastrophic skid down the points table which finds them firmly rooted at the very bottom. Rishabh Pant clearly appeared miserable when he was interviewed after the presentation.

"Look, I think we desperately need a break. I think we'll be refreshed," Pant stated. "There's always pressure, and there will always be pressure games. But at the same time, we have to find answers within, not outside, and keep it simple. Every individual has to take responsibility. This can't be just one or two people. This is the responsibility of the entire unit."

As the team seemed pretty down, the way for LSG to get back on track looks pretty difficult. The fact that Pant has asked all team members to take responsibility together indicates that they are considering changing the playing XI as a desperate measure while they look for their first points of the month.
