The FIFA World Cup will begin on June 11, 2014; therefore, it will be a historic FIFA World Cup as it is held in/at three different countries: The United States of America, Mexico and Canada. The World Cup has been increased to include 48 teams, including teams that will participate in the World Cup, such as Curaçao and Uzbekistan, for the first time and traditional powers such as France and Spain.
Out of all of the giants that come over to North America, the Argentina national football team arrives as overwhelming favorites. Manager Lionel Scaloni looks to lead his team to back-to-back championships after winning their 3rd star in a thrilling penalty shoot-out against France in Qatar.
Their squad announcement is drawing very near and the pressure is on for the South American giants, as it has been hinted for some time that captain Lionel Messi will play in this tournament for the last time.
Understanding Argentina’s Group J Opponents
La Albiceleste is set to play in Group J, a group that some football experts consider to be one of the easiest routes to the knockout stages. Argentina is drawn with Algeria, Austria, and Jordan, so they will have a great chance to finish first.
The recent world champions will play their first match against Algeria. The team from North Africa qualified by winning their challenging CAF group, so they will be physically tough and tactically well disciplined, making the first game a real challenge.
Jordan will tell its story as it gets set to compete in its first-ever World Cup with no prior history in this competition; however, it has worked very hard during its qualifying round through an exhausting series of matches to gain entry into this tournament. Jordan should expect a challenge during this event from the previous cup holders.
Austria will provide Argentina with the most challenging encounter within their group at this World Cup event under the management of experienced coach Ralf Rangnick. Austria finished first in its qualifying group, producing one of the most successful tournaments played by any nation thus far.
This World Cup will also mark the first time that Austria has qualified for this competition since the 1998 World Cup and Austria's aggressive and very high pressing style of play will be a challenge for the Argentina midfield, which typically relies heavily upon its ability to retain control with its technical touch and therefore can expect to meet a formidable opponent when they take on each other.
