The final week of the IPL 2026 has begun with high tension in the air as the playoffs commence on Tuesday (10 October) in Dharamsala when the Royal Challengers Bangalore take on the Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 1 match.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have shown outstanding consistency throughout this season to stay firmly in the top four for the entire league phase of IPL 2026 and finished in first position. After an incredible second half of the season (winning 6 out of 7 matches), Gujarat Titans claimed their spot in the playoffs. Both teams finished on 18 points with the Sunrisers Hyderabad; however, because of an obviously superior net run rate, RCB finishes at the top.
Both teams secured a victory at home against each other during the group stage. Now it is up to each other on a neutral territory at the beautiful HPCA Stadium, where only a spot in the final awaits; the losing side must face the arduous task of going through Qualifier 2.
The three player matchups, which will be decisive for this blockbuster.
Virat Kohli vs Kagiso Rabada
Powerplay spans at the Dharamsala ground will mainly determine the mood of the game. Virat Kohli has been amazing all this IPL season. He already has scored 557 runs with an average of 50.64 and a very good strike rate of 163.82. Among his runs, he got a century and four fifties.
GT will try to stop him by sending Kagiso Rabada against him. Rabada so far has 24 wickets and he is at the second spot on the bowling list after RCB's Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The duel between the bosses dates back almost a decade and is reminiscent of the great international rivalry of the two top contemporary Indian and South African players. The one who wins this first-get-together moment will hand the other a big problem.
Shubman Gill vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar
GT's captain, Shubman Gill, has established himself as one of the leading run scorers in this tournament, having just 22 fewer runs than Sai Sudharsan, who has the most runs and wears the Orange Cap. Gill's batting average is extremely impressive, as his overall strike rate is a staggering 161.67; therefore, he is eager to make his mark on a larger platform.
Gill's next opponent, on the other hand, is none other than his arch-nemesis Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is currently wearing the Purple Cap and is RCB's go-to bowler in the powerplay.
Bhuvneshwar was phenomenal in this last outing against MI when he bowled a final-ball thriller! Bhuvneshwar has dismissed Shubman Gill five times when playing against him in the past; therefore, there will be significant psychological implications involved in this battle at the start of an innings.
Rajat Patidar vs Rashid Khan
It will be the powerplay overs that dominate the headlines, but this match could easily swing on the back of the middle overs. RCB skipper Rajat Patidar has been the man for the spin hitters for RCB, and he's 393 at a strike rate of 183.64.
He'll face off against Rashid Khan, back to his very best with 19 wickets in the tournament, having rediscovered himself following two moderate years.
One of the best players of spin in the country will go toe-to-toe with one of the best in the world with the quickest variations around, and one error from Patidar will win it for the other team.
