KKR Sign Navdeep Saini as Replacement for Injured Harshit Rana in IPL 2026

Before IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have taken an important step towards boosting their pace attack ahead of the upcoming high-octane IPL opening match. In a major roster announcement, KKR has signed Indian fast bowler Navdeep Saini as a replacement for Harshit Rana, who has been injured.

Why Harshit Rana is Out

Harshit Rana turned into a crucial player during the Purple and Gold’s 2024 title run, but things took a turn in 2026. Right before the T20 World Cup, he picked up a nasty ligament injury in his right knee during a warm-up game against South Africa.

After surgery and facing a long rehab ahead, Rana missed the whole season, and KKR really felt his absence, especially in those tense death overs, where he used to shine.

The Revival: Saini’s Second Innings

For Navdeep Saini, this is not only a call-up. It is a career lifeline for him. Having been unsold in the last mega-auction and spending the last few seasons on the sidelines with Rajasthan Royals, the pacer from Karnal is calling it a "revival moment."

"When I got the call, it felt like my hard work was finally manifesting," Saini shared in a heartfelt message. "The last few years were tough, but I never stopped grinding. To join a franchise as iconic as KKR is special. Aami KKR!"

Saini is one of the fast bowlers in the Indian cricket team who is most comfortable bowling at speeds of 140 kmph+. The pace that he will be adding to the KKR squad will be a big plus for them. The knowledge and skills that he gained during his 2019 breakout season with RCB, when he took 11 wickets in 13 games, will definitely be of great help.

The management of Kerala Cricket has implemented a new "Pacesetter" strategy, with Saini being included in their roster. Akash Deep has also been ruled out and replaced by Saurabh Dubey due to an injury, whereas Matheesha Pathirana is recovering from a calf strain.

Thus, Saini’s acquisition offers another experienced Indian player to the group who will join Umran Malik and Vaibhav Arora as pace options for the franchise.

The three-time champion franchise will begin their title defence campaign versus the Mumbai Indians on March 29. The cricketing world will now be watching to see if the "speed merchant" returns to form at the legendary Eden Gardens Stadium.
