CSK has announced that MS Dhoni may be out for two weeks with a calf injury. Millions of fans will be saddened to confirm that he will miss at least the first two weeks of the 2026 IPL. The injury is a left calf strain. The 44-year-old hero of millions is recovering through rehabilitation.
Talk about dramatic timing. Only hours before the big announcement, fans caught a sneak peek of “Vintage Mahi” smashing sixes in a practice match video. But now, the franchise has pulled the plug, confirming the veteran finisher won’t play in the high-pressure opener against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati this Monday.
The Samson Era Begins Sooner Than Expected?
With Dhoni out of action, the focus naturally shifts to the man who, beyond doubt, was the biggest talking point of the pre-season transfer window: Sanju Samson. In an unprecedented move, CSK traded out their two mainstays, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, to get the Kerala star on board for a whopping 18 crore.
Although Ruturaj Gaikwad is still the captain, Sanju Samson is the only logical choice now to be the wicketkeeper. The irony of the match on Monday is so strong that Samson will be playing his first game for CSK against the very team he left, the Rajasthan Royals, whereas a rejuvenated Ravindra Jadeja will be leading the Men in Pink.
A ₹14.20 Crore Insurance Policy
Could this potentially be the final year for MS Dhoni’s career? Reports vary, but there have certainly been many rumors about whether or not 2022 may actually be MS Dhoni's last year in the Ipl (Indian Premier League). With MS Dhoni feeling that his fitness is on “the way down”, someone else needs to step up as a leader in the CSK ranks moving forward into 2023.
The CSK have made several moves recently that show they are no longer just waiting and hoping for the best; they are preparing as if they know an end is near.
Once upon a time CSK had plenty of depth to support MS Dhoni; now with the trade of Sanju Samson, along with the signing of uncapped Rajasthan Superstar Kartik Sharma for a whopping amount of ₹14.20 Crores, they have begun creating the next generation of players that will eventually replace MS Dhoni.
As CSK begins their run towards a historic 6th IPL title and the “Thala Kingdom” continues to wait for MS Dhoni to return from his retirement, we support MS Dhoni in everything he has accomplished throughout his stellar career by recognizing that it’s about the process for MS Dhoni and the CSK as a whole.
