Rajasthan Royals (RR) are set to kick off their IPL 2026 season against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 30, 2026 at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati.
During this match, RR and CSK will be starting fresh due to a change in leadership from their previous season (IPL 2025) and through an exciting new and high-profile trade (both teams added players during the offseason). Also, there will be a local player on each team participating in the matchup.
All eyes are on the Royals this season, mostly because Riyan Parag is stepping in as their new captain. After the headline-making trade that sent Sanju Samson to CSK, Parag, just 24 and hailing from Assam, gets the chance to lead in front of his home fans.
He did well as a stand-in skipper last year, and now the job's all his. The team is young, plays with fire, and they're hungry to prove themselves after last year’s disappointing run. Playoffs are the goal, and Parag's the one steering the ship.
The Suryavanshi-Jaiswal Firepower: Explosive Openers
All eyes will be on 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He made history at 14 by hitting a 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans last season - the second-fastest in IPL history. That performance cemented him as the league's most talked-about "X-factor." The thing is, his speed and precision are unmatched for someone so young.
Yashasvi Jaiswal matches that with solid technique and raw aggression. His 2025 season, 559 runs at an average of 43, makes the opening pair a serious threat in the powerplay. The duo controls early overs with confidence and consistency.
Middle-Order Grit: Ferreira, Jurel, and the Return of Jadeja
The top order brings the energy, but it’s the middle order that packs the punch. Dhruv Jurel holds things together there, and Shimron Hetmyer knows exactly how to seal the deal at the end.
This season, RR got a boost with Ravindra Jadeja back in their squad. He's returned to the team he led to victory that first year in 2008, and his all-round skills are going to be huge for them. Alongside him, Donovan Ferreira steps in he hits big, with a T20 strike rate of 167 and Dasun Shanaka, who’s come in after Sam Curran got injured.
The Fast Bowling Dilemma: Archer or Milne?
The main problem coach Kumar Sangakkara faces with selections is the fast bowlers. Jofra Archer just played really well in the T20 World Cup 2026 (11 wickets) but people are still worried about his economy rate. On the other hand, Adam Milne has been both very effective and economical (7.61 ER) in the SA20 league.
If RR wants to have a controlled bowling unit, especially during the death overs while playing on the high-scoring Guwahati pitch, Milne might be the one to get the final nod ahead of Archer.
